The Rain In Spain Falls Mainly On Arizona

Fishing is one of my favorite getaways and I really wish I could go throw a line in the lake this weekend. Unfortunately there are two roadblocks to that plan.

One, it's Memorial Day weekend, which means everyone who's mobile at all is going to be at one lake or another. There won't be any way of getting within a five-mile radius of the good fishing spots. The campgrounds have been packed, in part because of an early heatwave that hit over the past week or so, and in part because the fishing this year is supposed to be outstanding. On top of that, the state Game and Fish department is setting up several sites where you can get a fishing license en route to the lakes.

There's a second and more basic reason I can't go this weekend, though. I don't have fishing license, pole, or the gas to get there, hehehe. I've got a whopping $1.20 in my bank account until mid-week and while I have the gas to get to work and back, I used extra fuel last weekend when I was on my photo-taking spree. No regrets there. It was pure decadence to just get out and drive.

This morning was walk day. I took a short walk, and planned take another later in the day, though it didn't exactly work out that way. It was absolutely gorgeous today; we were expecting a high around 83°F, so this morning it was nice and cool. I have the windows open and am enjoying the fresh air. I'd nearly forgotten what fresh air smelled like!!! I want to take some pictures right in this area, too. I live in a high meadow, but there aren't many spots where you can drive back to take photos, and there's no place along the highway to pull off for them, either.

It apparently has decided to rain tonight - naturally, when it's too dark for photos. If it carries over into tomorrow I'll do get some pictures, though.

Hopefully too I will get a chance to snap photos of some of the local wildlife sooner or later, too. Whenever you drive more than a few miles, you're bound to see deer or elk along the road, sometimes bounding out in front of you. There are real, honest-to-goodness squirrels here (something I hadn't seen in years.) There's a lizard colony downstairs at work, though they're the small garden variety. No Gila monsters that I know of. (Gila Monsters are native to Arizona; they average about 23" long at maturity and are one of the two only known poisonous lizard in the world. They're also the largest lizard native to the US.)

This day was kind of lost for me - I worked a couple of hours this morning early (took off early yesterday and will be closing the office early Monday so don't feel bad for me.) I came home, did my walk, putzed around on the computer for a while, and went to watch TV around lunchtime or shortly thereafter. I think that lasted maybe five minutes (if that) until I was sound asleep on the sofa. I didn't wake up until well after 8pm! Yikes - that'll mess up my sleep schedule. I'll take some melatonin and hopefully still get some sleep tonight. I don't care if I wake up fairly early tomorrow - 4am or 5am is fine. I just don't want to wake up at midnight and not be able to go back to sleep.

The weather was probably a factor in all of this. We haven't had any of the booming thunder for which Arizona and the mountains are famous (at least locally.) But we have had clouds, perfect temperatures, low-key thunder and the scent of rain in the pines. That'll do me in every time if I'm the least bit tired.

A couple of quizzes before I go:

Take the quiz: What dragon species are you?

Psi Dragon

Psi Dragon
You knew you'd get this result didnt you? The psi dragon is more like a spiritual or host of a dragon. You have the sixth sense of premonition and knows things before they happen, hence giving you an advantage over most of your adversaries. You feel you are smart and significantly better then all others.

Yeah, sure. I'm better than everyone else. NOT!

You Were Actually Born Under:
Rooster
Resourceful and practical, you are a quick thinker. You are very observant - and it's hard to get anything past you! A total perfectionist, you are especially picky about looking your best. You're a big dreamer - such a big dreamer that reality can disappoint you.

You are most compatible with an Ox or Snake.

You Should Have Been Born Under:
horse
You've got a ton of energy - and need plenty of room to roam. You tend to follow your whims, and it's hard for you to stick to one thing. Specific jobs, loves, and friends are always changing and never a part of your life for long. Very intuitive, you tend to know what people are thinking before they say a word.

You are most compatible with a Dog or Tiger.

I suppose I should sign off and call it a night for now. Hope everyone else is having a good holiday weekend!!

Before - After

In the grander scheme of things, no soul can truly be replaced. Each one of us has a place in the universal tapestry. We each contribute our own color and texture. When one thread is snipped too soon, it distorts all the threads around it. Other lives can unravel and tear. If the wrong thread is ripped away, the whole fabric of life becomes dangerously fragile.
