Family Tree Revisited
From time to time I refer to the following folks in my diary. I figure it's simpler to put in a single page that explains them all. Since Diaryland REFUSES to update archived pages, I had to bring it up to speed in a new page. I'll be doing another update later today, barring catastrophe.
Me, Radiogurl, aka LeiLani aka Lei. Born in 1957 and apparently still not old enough to know better, but definitely old enough to care. I work in small town radio. I currently manage a small-town public (aka non-profit low-power) FM radio station, after spending countless years working in radio in another small town.
MC - the man who defied all history (not to mention logic!) to become the man in my life. He's amazing and I adore him. The MC isn't initials - it stands for "Mr. Complicated," because he may just be the only person I've ever met whose life is as convoluted as mine.
00 - my oldest daughter, who lived with me for a while after attaining adulthood, after her personal life fell apart in a big way. In general she's a bright, good kid in her early 20's who worked at the one of the radio stations with me until my previous Boss drove her beyond all reason and she walked out. The 00 refers to her clothing size at one point, though she's vastly healthier now and I think she's jumped to a size 3/4 or thereabouts. She's also decided to start college, a move that makes me immensely happy because not only will it help her in the future, but tells me that she's grown emotionally healthy, too, a couple of years after a near-successful suicide attempt.
Pipeboy - 00's now ex-boyfriend, who turned out to be just about as creepy as her previous ex, albeit in a different way. I have revised here once after he started working for a living, but am updating again now that he's shown his true colors by carrying on an affair with an underage employee. So named because he managed to leave a pipe where I could find it. Just didn't happen to be a tobacco pipe.
Current Boss - title sort of speaks for itself. After a good start, things are not looking so great now. I'll chalk it up to fate telling me to move along.
Former Boss - Revising this summer 2006, a little more than a year after I changed jobs. Former boss was a friend but he took advantage in nearly every way. I was working round the clock, getting no overtime pay or even competitive pay, and in the end had become his caretaker - a job to which I most assuredly did NOT aspire.
Youngest Daughter - the name says it all. Child who has managed to drive me summarily nuts - as if I needed any help!
Youngest Son - again, not exactly rocket science to figure out who this is, hehe. He's the brainiac of my bunch, personable and cute too. Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately if you're a young single woman) he's now single again and looking for a girlfriend.
Other family members: I have one sis and one brother, an older son and a few stray nieces and assorted ex-whatevers. Some it's hard to classify. My oldest son (the oldest of my children, in fact) is grown and married, no kids, is married to a terrific young woman. My sis just got out of a horrific marriage and unexpectedly found another man, though she sure didn't go looking. My dad is another I may mention from time to time but it won't be an affectionate reference. Too much water under that booby-trapped bridge.
Granddaughter - Youngest Daughter's child, a toddler who is quite the expert at twisting me around her little finger. She is 2 years old as of April 2005. She's a smartee, very good at repeating things, inquisitive and inventive. A dangerous combination!
Grandson - 00's son and the source of much grief. Grandson has done nothing at his age, but his father, 00's ex, has used him as a pawn to hurt 00. Grandson's daddy is treading some very dangerous ground and if there's any such thing as Karma he's in for a massively difficult life somewhere down the road.
Friend from Quebec - also pretty self-explanatory. Young man the age of my kids, and tough to categorize our relationship. We're friends, but not sure who is whose mentor in this arrangement. He's my touchstone for tech matters but also in a lot of respects, for personal ones.
Others are friends from here on Diaryland: Dangerspouse, Wench77 and Her-story get frequent mentions because we chat and/or correspond off these pages. And naturally I must include Hissandtell, as she is my hero!
Before - After
In the grander scheme of things, no soul can truly be replaced. Each one of us has a place in the universal tapestry. We each contribute our own color and texture. When one thread is snipped too soon, it distorts all the threads around it. Other lives can unravel and tear. If the wrong thread is ripped away, the whole fabric of life becomes dangerously fragile.
