All That Glitters Is A Quitter
This must be a short entry, as it's nearly 1am and I have to be in early to work tomorrow.
I already told people I was going to give my notice yesterday (Monday.) After taking off an hour and a half early - and an hour and a half after I was SUPPOSED to leave - last Friday, I arrived to work this morning to find a note from Boss. Some snide remarks and much bitching and the comment that I don't have my priorities right at work. I had to leave first thing to sit through an interminable meeting of officials sniping and growling, which was probably a good thing for Boss, as I didn't kill him while he was driving away.
Funny how when I returned, things were changed dramatically. I told Boss that 1) I've accomplished what I said I'd do when I arrived here, by setting up the automation system and getting it working; 2) I spend most of my time trying to figure out the latest whim he throws at me, software or other 'project; 3) When not doing that, I'm doing maintenance or news or dealing with billing issues or training someone; and 4) since obviously I'm inadequate, I think he really needs to find someone else. ASAP. I didn't mention the fact that I've also had to try and help care for his health and so on.
Just the same, I think he got a whiplash from backpedaling so fast.
Of course absolutely nothing has changed nor do I even care any more. I still intend to leave around May 1. I'm tired of wasting my time and I've more than paid my dues in this place. I just have to tell him again that I'm leaving, whether he backpedals or not.
Enough on that issue. I did something crazy. I bought the ring (left) on ebay. I bid on it assuming that there was absolutely no way I'd get it for that bid, only I did. I have been looking for a birthstone ring for a long while, and finally found one that I like. Hopefully the actual deal looks like the photo. I watched for one that's solid gold (no plating, no silver, no spray-painting, thanks.) That it included four small diamonds were a bonus. And I won the bid for $20. With shipping and everything we're talking under $30.
I'll have to pay to have it sized, but that shouldn't be too much. While I'm not a big jewelry hound, I ALWAYS wanted a birthstone ring. I've had one twice before - one, my darling hubby sold. (Along with everything else I owned.) I don't remember why. I don't even know what happened to the second one, but I imagine it was something along the same lines.
Anyway, whether or not I can afford it, I decided I wanted to get something that I can bring with me on a plane. Because looks like that's what'll be happening in another month or thereabouts.
I just have to jog Boss's memory several times in order to be sure he gets it.
Before - After
In the grander scheme of things, no soul can truly be replaced. Each one of us has a place in the universal tapestry. We each contribute our own color and texture. When one thread is snipped too soon, it distorts all the threads around it. Other lives can unravel and tear. If the wrong thread is ripped away, the whole fabric of life becomes dangerously fragile.
